Abstract

Pedagogical competence is one of the key competencies that teachers must possess in order to deliver effective teaching and learning, including in Arabic language teaching. Pedagogical competence relates not only to a teacher’s ability to deliver content, but also encompasses the ability to understand learners’ characteristics, design lessons, select appropriate methods and resources, conduct interactive teaching, and evaluate the learning process and outcomes. This article aims to analyse the importance of teachers’ pedagogical competence in Arabic language teaching and to identify various aspects of pedagogical competence that support successful learning. This study employs a qualitative approach using the library research method. Data were obtained from books, scientific journal articles, educational regulations, and various literature relevant to pedagogical competence and Arabic language teaching. The findings indicate that teachers’ pedagogical competence plays a crucial role in enhancing the effectiveness of Arabic language learning. Teachers with pedagogical competence are able to adapt teaching strategies to the characteristics of their pupils, develop the four language skills—namely listening (istima’), speaking (kalam), reading (qira’ah) and writing (kitabah)—and utilise teaching media and technology appropriately. Consequently, enhancing teachers’ pedagogical competence is a key factor in creating Arabic language learning that is active, communicative, contextual and oriented towards learners’ needs.
